Shea Butter
Shea butter comes from nuts found on African shea (karite) trees. Shea butter contains the Vitamins A & E, minerals, proteins, and a unique fatty profile, and is a superior active moisturizer. Unlike petroleum based moisturizers, shea butter actually restores the skin's natural elasticity. Shea butter actually enables your skin to absorb moisture from the air, and as a result, your skin becomes softer and stays moisturized for longer.
Some shea nuts are shipped whole out of Africa to other countries to be processed in factories. Not only does this deprive African villages from deriving the most profit from shea, but some of the factories use the chemical hexane to extract the shea butter. We purchase our shea butter through the Fair Trade Federation to ensure that the maximum amount of profit stays in the village and that the shea butter is harvested using an organic, water based method.
